Mijikenda Kaya Elders Stopped Planned Coastal Unity Meeting sitting Politicians has Self Interest Mindset
Kilifi, Kenya – Mijikenda Kaya elders have rejected a Coastal unity meeting that was planned for Friday, December 26, 2025.
The meeting was supposed to happen at the home of the late Cabinet Minister Ronald Ngalla in Vishakani, Kaloleni.
The elders, led by Coordinator Tsuma Nzai Kombe, gathered at Kaya Fungo on Christmas Day to perform rituals and announce their decision.
They warned that the meeting is "illegal" and should not take place.
The elders believe the meeting was organized by a few politicians for their own selfish reasons, not to help the people of the Coast, also elders said important local leaders, including the area Member of Parliament (MP), were not invited.
The elders explained that the late Ronald Ngalla was blessed at Kaya Fungo. Therefore, any unity drive should start at Kaya Fungo, not at his grave.
The Mijikenda Kaya elders have told the meeting organizers to cancel the meeting immediately because it does not have their blessing. Coordinator Kombe warned that they would send youths to stop the meeting if the organizers tried to go ahead with it.
Naomi Cidi Kumbatha, a coastal leader who supports the elders, agreed that a few people should not use the name of Coastal unity for personal gain without involving everyone.
