Bomet Health Centre Attains Green Label Status Under SHA, Government to Fund Treatment

Bomet Health Centre has officially been accredited as a Green Label Facility under the Social Health Authority (SHA), marking a major milestone in the rollout of free primary healthcare services in the country.

The designation means patients can now access a wide range of essential health services at the facility free of charge through a walk-in, walk-out model, with all costs fully covered by SHA under the Primary Healthcare Fund (PHCF), financed by the Government of Kenya.

According to SHA, the Green Label status confirms that Bomet Health Centre meets the required standards to offer comprehensive Level 3 primary healthcare services. These include consultation, diagnosis and treatment, laboratory tests, radiology services such as ultrasound, and provision of medicines.

Other services covered include disease screening for conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV, cancer and mental health, as well as minor surgical procedures conducted under local anaesthesia. Maternal and child health services, including antenatal and postnatal care, immunisation, family planning and nutrition support, are also provided at no cost.

Patients living with chronic conditions such as tuberculosis, diabetes and hypertension will benefit from long-term care and follow-up, while HIV and STI services, including testing, counselling and treatment, are also fully covered. Referral services to higher-level facilities are available where further management is required.

SHA noted that Bomet County is the first health care provider to receive the Green Label Facility Service Charter, which clearly outlines services available and covered under the authority. The initiative is aimed at improving transparency, reducing out-of-pocket spending, and ensuring Kenyans understand their healthcare entitlements.

The Authority has announced plans to roll out the Green Label initiative to other health facilities in the coming weeks as part of efforts to strengthen universal access to affordable and quality primary healthcare across the country.

Members of the public can access more information through SHA’s toll-free number 147 or via its official platforms.
